More about nadia

Hi! It’s me! I am sure you’re wondering – who is she? I was born in Vancouver, BC – raised by immigrant parents who came here with a ‘dollar and a dream’ – a PROUD CANADIAN (pretty cool right?) and a now PASSIONATE TORONTO GIRL. In high school I loved meeting new people, spreading positivity, theater and dance which lead me to The Six, a now, high school science and drama teacher, motivational speaker and hip hop enthusiast.

For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with creating a can’t-knock-me-down attitude and cultivating a ridiculous amount of self-awareness. Watching my father literally make something out of nothing proved to me that WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY. PERIOD. Being inspired by his ambition, positivity and ‘can-do’ attitude, optimism became my north star.

My self-awareness journey started in high school with an INCREDIBLE AMOUNT of positive self-talk, drive to find positivity at every turn, determination to ‘make it’ in gratitude for my parents sacrifices and a ‘head down and work’ mentality. That’s what I did – I put my head down and worked. I put my head down and worked not only on attaining my education but also on me. Discovering my strengths, navigating through my weaknesses, talking myself through life’s challenges and encouraging myself to always, always, ALWAYS believe – believing is the key. You say you can’t and it’s done. You say YOU CAN and you’ve won.

Then, leading up to my university graduation ceremony, I felt incredibly sick. I was walking in and out of clinics to find out what was wrong with me but I was left with no answers. Finally, my mom said ENOUGH! No more clinics, you are going to the hospital. I waited 6 hours in the emergency room, had several tests performed…and that day, at 24, I was diagnosed with cancer.

So now what? My degree came with a diagnosis – Hodgkin’s lymphoma stage 2B. ‘ANYTHING can be a positive experience, if you let it. Right Nadia?’ ‘Right?’… ‘Nadia?’

Right! Right! I wasn’t willing to change my mind! I had two choices, I could let my circumstances define and defeat me or CHOOSE I CAN AND STEP INTO MY GREATNESS. I chose the latter – to take pain and transform it into a powerful, positive purpose. To take a challenging situation – embrace it – and transform it into a beautiful journey. The day I was diagnosed I decided that THE EXPERIENCE WOULD BE A BEAUTIFUL LEARNING AND GROWING OPPORTUNITY. We cannot always choose our circumstances but we can ALWAYS choose our perspectives.

And, just like that, CHOOSE I CAN was born. The undying belief that when we choose I CAN – body, mind, spirit – we become limitless and our potential becomes infinite. CHOOSE I CAN is a mind-set, a growth mind-set, and through high-energy talks and drama-based workshops I share the strategies I used to stay positive, the lessons I learned and the opportunities I created during and after my journey with cancer.

If I'm not struggling,

If I'm not struggling,

I'm not learning. If I'm not learning, I'm not growing. If I'm not growing, I'm not living and to live is a blessing. - Nadia Gulamhusein

When we embrace life

When we embrace life

and submit to God's will, we realize that everything happens for our benefit - for us to learn, grow and become better people. - Nadia Gulamhusein

Since my remission date in 2009, I have been whole-heartedly committed to serving others by sharing my story of hope and resilience – one filled with ups and downs, challenges and lessons, pain and immense gratitude. It all started with an album I created called hope (see above and click the images to view a snapshot of the album and quotes) and now, I have been blessed beyond-belief to have spoken at and facilitated workshops for numerous cancer events, community out-reach programs and conferences. The CHOOSE I CAN message is universal and empowering – it promotes positive mental health, self-awareness and resilience.

I am extremely passionate about CHOOSE I CAN and am ecstatic that it is growing every single day. From talks, to workshops, to books, to quotes, to Vlogs, to podcasts, to clothing, shoes and gear – my vision is vast. My dream is to have everyone on the planet unleashing their limitless potential, living their best, happiest lives! Nothing, nothing excites me more than helping people CHOOSE I CAN and step into their greatness!

I want to humbly thank you for visiting and taking the time to read this, I truly appreciate it. I sincerely hope that the I CAN journey is one we can take together. The best way to stay connected is through Youtube, Instagram or Twitter – just type CHOOSE I CAN and you’ll find me! I’ll be there working on my dream and I’d love to learn about yours!

To book a talk or workshop you can fill out the contact section or just click here! I do charge for these two and some other items as well in order to invest more into CHOOSE I CAN and continue to push this movement forward, shifting as many minds and impacting as many lives as possible! What’s exciting about this is not only will CHOOSE I CAN grow – 10% is ALWAYS donated to cancer research. Raising money to help others get through their cancer journey is part of the CHOOSE I CAN dream!

Excited to connect and CHOOSE I CAN together!

With Gratitude,

NADIA
